An increasingly desperate Student gave a categorical order – “stand by the Albert Canal until the last man. But at Hechtel, at the crossroads on the northern highway to Eindhoven, the paratroopers of Fallschirmjägerregiment Grassmel, inexperienced in battle, began to lose ground under pressure from the British attacks.
