The battle raged amid panicked Dutch citizens – which the SS took advantage of. Seven Scots were killed and 50 were captured. Helle smelled victory and went to Café Pension J.Kramer. This was a two-story red-brick guesthouse located on the north side of Amsterdamscheweg in the northeast corner of Ginkel Heath, where he established his new command post.
His Dutch SS soldiers then controlled the northeastern part of the moor where the 4th Parachute Brigade was scheduled to be dropped just a few hours later.

To commemorate 75 years of Operation Market Garden, a new monument was erected near the restaurant:
